Hi, I am Tawfiq. I am a 20 year old student from Gaza.

After months of trying to escape the war, I was accepted to a scholarship program in Canada designed for displaced students. But my family is trapped inside Gaza, starving and barely surviving inside Gaza, living on ketchup and animal feed, with no access to work, safe housing, or even clean water.

Before the war, my family lived a modest but dignified life. My father owned a small pharmacy. My mother worked in public service. I was a top student. I tutored kids in my neighborhood and dreamed of becoming a doctor to serve my community.

• My home was bombed.

• Our pharmacy was destroyed.

• All our income stopped.

• We have been forced to flee with nothing.

Now, we are living in one small, overheated room, unable to afford food, rent, or medical care. A small bag of rice can cost $70. White flour is over $100. There are no salaries, no borders open, and no safe place to go.

I walk 7 kilometers just to find weak internet to apply for scholarships. I have been offered seats at top universities in Poland, Saudi Arabia, and finally, Canada.
